Profile
Sally Gatie’s work lies between the figurative and the abstract. Working in oil on canvas; colour and pattern are the foundation of each painting which reflect a sense of hope and peace.
She paints her children while they are asleep, showing them in a natural state of peace. Her paintings have strong aesthetic characteristics of colour, rhythm and texture as well as a deeper personal meaning that cannot always be seen at first glance. She believes that art must have compelling reasons to exist; one reason might be to communicate specific ideas or emotions, but another, perhaps more important, is to provide a point of departure for the viewer’s own thoughts and feelings.
”While working on a painting my thoughts drift into another time and place where everything makes sense…”
Sally exhibits throughout the UK.
